Initial Consultation
Your Initial Consultation:

Psychological Therapy involves an initial consultation where the nature of the problem is shared and clarified. Background information is obtained and an individualized therapeutic approach is developed collaboratively with each client.

The best possible method to address the problem is selected based on best practice and evidence. This is implemented over time in regular sessions which are usually weekly. This process may include exploration of broader life experiences which impact on the problem with the ultimate aim of alleviating distress, developing insight, enhancing wellbeing and quality of life.

Types of Psychotherapy:

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is a practical and problem-focused approach to understanding problems in terms of the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

Psychodynamic Therapy is also known as insight oriented therapy. Briefly, a psychodynamic approach enables the client to examine and address the impact of past relationships on current personal and interpersonal difficulties i.e. developing an understanding of our history helps us address difficulties in our present lives.
